The Robber's Stone, near West Lavington, c.1900s

The stone on what is now the A360, just south of West Lavington, which tells the tale of the four highwaymen who set upon a Mr Dean of Imber. One died after being pursued across the Plain; three others were captured and 'transported'. The stone offers this story as a warning to those who would engage in robbery. Scanned from the photographer's original negative. Most of these images were taken before he started producing postcards, and before he saved his images on glass plates.
