Taken from Clifton Suspension Bridge, this view shows a dredger at work clearing the channel. It is noticeable that the Portway is just a small road, dwarfed by the width of Bridge Valley Road, which leads down from fashionable Clifton to the Hotwells area. Scanned from the photographer's original negative. Most of these images were taken before he started producing postcards, and before he saved his images on glass plates.
