Description

In Royal Avenue Gardens is a memorial to Thomas Newcomen, inventor of the atmospheric engine. His industrial steam engine was used to pump water out of mines. 50 years later, James Watt further developed it and claimed credit for its invention. Copied from the photographer's original full plate glass negative.
