West side, showing the Edinburgh Castle pub from Philip Street. The gap on the right of the pub was the site of 12, Newark Street. All the houses were demolished in 1971. The west side is part of the Southgate development. The east side gave way to the Ham Gardens car park and bus station. From a collection of slides from the 1950s-1980s, by Lesley Green-Armytage.
