Was one of the most popular stage performers in Great Britain and North America in the late 20th century. She had a brief courtship with George Bernard Shaw. She married the painter G.F. Watts in 1864 and acted for the rest of her life, most notably in Shakespearean roles. Photographed by Walker & Boutall.
