Lord Chancellor of Great Britain from 1766-1770. He opposed taxation in colonial America. He also attacked the Stamp Act, in 1765, which had led to the American Revolution. Member of Parliament for Downton, Wiltshire from 18757 to 1761. Portrait by Reynolds
