Description

The officially approved caption to this uncensored photo reads: The fire-ravaged interior of St James's, the graceful church built in the Italian style, at the junction of Stall Street and Southgate Street. The copper dome of the 'pepper pot' cupola, which blazed white hot, had to be pulled down.
