Description

The area behind Pulteney Bridge was derelict and cleared to make way for the Podium and Hilton hotels in the 1970s. 3,000 burials including lead coffins 16 ft. deep by the river were removed. Remains 6-8 at a time were put in black coffins, removed at 7.30 am and re-interred in holy ground elsewhere.
