He was the brother of James and was a law clerk for the firm of Chestermans in Bladud Buildings. He was a Congregationalist and a hymn writer including The Blood of Christ, thy spotless Lamb which is still sung today. When married he lived at 8 Devonshire Villas, Wells Rd (later Wellsway) and is pictured here c.1896 in front of that house with his wife, Bessie and children. Photograph by F.J.
